Valuing appearances more than ourselves happens more often than we realize because it’s so ingrained in our daily life and culture. Balancing the need to be noticed and seen based on the rules of search engines is just one challenge. There’s also comparison and competition energy that flows much more freely than collaboration energy, and the fine line between what’s seen as bragging vs honest sharing of our accomplishments because we are proud of our work or being of service.

With so much muddled energy around what we can take as truth and what’s “acceptable” vs “pushy” or “showing off”, it’s no wonder we are confused as a society on how to allow things to flow without micromanaging every level of our appearance, interactions, or expressions and not expect judgment at every turn.

This confusion makes it easy to diminish the power of our own value and gifts, making us feel we need to focus more on what things look like than the truth “behind the curtain”. Yet, because our personal value is often rooted in gaining external validation and impacted by the fear of being judged and rejected for simply showing up as our true selves, we can easily take the reactions of others – who are dealing with their own fears and hangups – to heart. Soon enough, we turn this “hearsay” into proof we are not enough.

However, this pattern can be flipped on it’s head and turned into an invitation to connect with the true source of our value and own it, regardless of outside noise or “proof.”

On this episode of the Flirting With Enlightenment podcast, I discuss how we can easily fall into the trap of feeling less than for various reasons, and continue to live out old patterns that keep us in a space of never feeling enough, and what to do about it.  Listen for insights and tips to help explore how you can step out of old limiting mental and emotional patterns and move towards deeper self-understanding, compassion and growth to truly embrace your value with a full heart.
