Episode 133
Listen to “Honoring Your Humanness When Life Feels Overwhelming” on Spreaker.
There is no road map to being human or honoring your humanness. It’s something we live into and discover as we go.
So why do we think that being in a human, physical body means we can control it all? That if we just do everything “right” then we won’t have to deal with the messiness of life or unexpected situations? Maybe get ahead of the emotional impact and avoid it?
Hey, I get it! It’s easy to let our mind drift there, especially when we are looking at what’s ahead with a sense of overwhelm and dread in our minds and hearts.
Do experiences where we feel completely under water, out of our element or unsure how to move forward build character? You bet? Is it fun – NOPE. Is it appealing to find a way to move past the frustration and friction as soon as possible – heck yea. BUT, no one can escape the most human part about being human. Feeling and being in a physical body.
On this episode of the Flirting With Enlightenment podcast, I talk about what it means to practice honoring your humanness, and how easy it can be to slip into coping mechanism behaviors when we feel overwhelmed. We can shut down, tune out, avoid through distraction or allow self judgement to kick up and tell us we are never going to get ahead.
I share about simple ways to connect with healthy, mindful self-care routines that feel supportive and are easy to practice to create space, perspective and a chance to connect with emotions that get stirred up. I also talk about how easy it is to pile on yourself when the waves keep coming, and to stay watchful of when you need to reach help or a fresh perspective.
The most important thing to remember when moving through a “season” of overwhelm, is that honoring your humanness is more than just accepting that you are human. It’s about finding ways to celebrate the limited time you are in a physical body, and knowing there’s no “right” way to be a human at any age, and turning experiences into a self empowerment story.
