Exciting and scary may feel the same in a physical way. The general vibe, sensations and physical reactions can have the same impact on the body, emotions and mind, leaving us a bit confused or mixed up in the process.

Is it time to be afraid? Or is it time to celebrate the fact something we’ve been wanting and waiting for is happening – even if it’s in a way we didn’t expect? Do all of these elements mixed together cause confusion and creative fog?

In essence, this is what occurs in the mind and heart when dealing with a creative block. We can feel overwhelmed, unsure or afraid – muddling our clarity and shutting down our momentum. In many ways it totally makes sense. If you are unable to clearly identify something as scary vs exciting in any aspect of life – creativity, self expression, career, relationships, self-worth – it easily forms a mental block that builds long-term.

At the same time, we may have learned through our life experiences that certain feelings mean “danger”, creating a learned response of reacting with fear instead of curiosity and patience. It’s all part of the human experience, and how we learn to understand and spot our personal wounding so we can heal. When we can determine what is a true fear, and why, we are empowered to take action to work with it, instead of being completely stopped by it.

On the latest Flirting with Enlightenment podcast, I talk about how “exciting” and “scary” may feel the same, and how to dig a little deeper to learn to tell the difference. I also share insights on how we often build up the reasons why our fears should stay instead of stepping forward into change, and digging into where some fears might have originated in the first place.

I also offer insights and examples to tell the difference between excitement and fear, and how what we focus on is key to shifting the balance and feeling more empowered. When we are able to get clear on these aspects about our own personal reactions, we can begin to move past what stands in the way of creating from a place of confidence and clarity.
