Episode 132
Being able to tell the difference between when we, or someone else, is performing and being their natural selves can be tricky.
The general longing to be seen and accepted in a busy world, combined with the performative quality of social media, can make building a true connection with others feel like a challenge.
When you add in the element of technology, and the filters, screens, and other distractions that come along with it, the opportunity to hide behind a “mask” can be pretty inviting. In some ways, it definitely feels safer than being ourselves.
Yet, technology is just a tool. Rather than using it to build a mask, it can also help us to be more authentic, true, and create honest connections from a real, human, open-hearted place.
On the latest episode of the Flirting With Enlightenment podcast, I talk about the difference between performing and being energy, and how to recognize when you are using it as an empowering tool vs hiding behind it. I also share examples on how to notice when you, or others, are performing rather than being true to the heart, situation, and what needs to be acknowledged in order to heal and grow.
In addition, I share reasons why behavioral tendencies of performing vs being can impact health, self-esteem and self-care, and how to shift towards more self-supportive habits.
Sensing the disharmony between the pull of “have to” or “should”, vs what is true to our voice and sense of self, is the first step towards a natural flow of simply being. Is it time to step into the truth of the heart and soul instead of carrying around the weight expectations?
