Episode 109

Listen to “The Art of Simplicity as a Practice.”

The art of simplicity as a practice isn’t always simple to manage in everyday life.

When we keep things simple in the mind it can help us get clear, stay focused, and get things done, but takes mindful commitment and consistency to be effective. At the same time, we are also emotional beings, and emotions are complex. We have to feel, not analyze our feelings in order to move through the energy of what they bring, and then let them pass through us in their own time.

In addition, we can take the art of simplicity as a practice and turn it into a crutch to avoid emotional entanglements or stay risk averse. Then, before we know it, we are turning an emotional process into a mental exercise where there are no right answers. This keeps us from growing into our potential, or sharing our true self in the world – especially if it seems a feat too complex or impossible to achieve.

On the latest episode of the Flirting With Enlightenment podcast, I talk about how the art of simplicity is a balance that changes as we do. I offer tips on how to stay mindful given the dynamics of the situation, and share tips on how to ensure you use the art of simplicity in positive ways. I also give examples of how we can unknowingly take a simple approach to something, only to discover it doesn’t get us where we really need to go, or offer up the inner work we need to grow to connect with the joy in life we truly want.
