We are all born with intuition. In it’s simplest form, intuition is defined as the ability to understand, sense or know something immediately without the need to have a conscious thought about it.

Intuition helps us connect to and learn from our surroundings, putting together pieces of insight that enable us see a bigger picture. It also serves as a survival tool, helping us stay in communication with our parental figure and environment.

In a nutshell, intuition is communication that goes beyond words. It captures insights from our mind, body, spirit and all of our senses.

Developing Intuitive Strengths as We Grow

The gift of intuition grows with us, shaping itself based on the messages we receive from family, friends and feedback in our environment. However, these external influences can cause us to lose touch with our natural intuitive guidance and stop trusting it.

According to the glamorized television version of life, intuitive hits come in a flash, changing the course of our life. And yes, that can absolutely happen – but it’s not the only way it speaks to us.

The reality is that intuition is a skill we have in play all day, every day. The connection and ability is there, but we may have chosen to ignore or stop accessing it. With tools like mindfulness, meditation, devotion, time in nature and other practices, we can reconnect with the intuitive parts of ourselves once again – and trust.

On the latest episode of the Flirting With Enlightenment podcast, we talk about what intuition is, how to tap into it and ways to spot messages. We also talk about the body and its role in intuition, and how to learn and understand ways even the smallest of sensations convey intuitive information.

When we are tuning into ourselves regularly, we build awareness throughout the day. This helps us learn to understand and recognize intuitive insights vs ego, and to stop rationalizing things away. Building intuitive muscles takes time and trust as we learn its unique language for us.

Do you know when you are experiencing insight from intuition or when the ego is taking over? How do they sound different in your mind and heart? Better yet, do you listen to intuitive guidance you receive, and trust it?
